NextGen event: Library of the unbuilt

  • Arup 80 Charlotte Street London, England, W1T 4QS United Kingdom (map)

The Library of the Unbuilt event explores a single ambitious design proposal and asks a panel of built environment professionals one simple question:

Should this be built?

For this event, we’ll be debating The Living Line: a fictional proposal for an elevated landscape woven through London, transforming existing infrastructure corridors into a continuous sequence of gardens, public spaces and active travel routes above the city.

👀 View the project boards (PDF) and start forming your own verdict before the evening.

The format is designed to be engaging, challenging and conversational. Rather than defending the project or representing a professional position, each panellist is invited to critically test the idea from their own perspective, exploring the opportunities, trade-offs and realities involved in delivering ambitious projects.

On the panel:

  • Lydia Morrow, Project Director, Lipton Rogers

  • Sajjad Dar, Senior Town Planning Consultant, Newmark UK

  • Mark Simpson, Senior Architect, Arup

  • Claudia Fernandes, Assistant Construction Manager, Overbury

A huge thank you to Arup for sponsoring and hosting this final NextGen event of 2026.
