Haiti Reconstruction - Volunteer Architect 

 

Article 25 is an NGO team of construction professionals designing and constructing built solutions in post-disaster and post-war locations throughout the world. Projects include:

  • Conservation based masterplanning in the Gola Forest, Eastern Sierra Leone.
  • Prototype Child Friendly School for Sierra Leone.
  • Centre for street children, Maputo, Mozambique.
  • Child soldier retraining centre, Northern Uganda.

 

ROLE

  • Excellent opportunity for architects to join our London design team working on our school-building projects throughout Haiti.
  • Demanding brief working within strong environmental, social and design agendas.
  • Developing sustainable structures using local materials, knowledge of vernacular design and climate responsive design.
  • Particularly challenging post-disaster environment.
  • Engagement with the challenges of the local environment and culture.  

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Significant experience in Job Running, leading a small design team.
  • Strong Design Skills.
  • Qualified Architects with 3+ years work experience.
  • Excellent communication and personal skills.
  • Knowledge of French and Creole advantageous.

 

INFORMATION

  • Start date: March 2010.
  • Duration: 6 month, 12 month durations available, with possible extension. 
  • Terms: these are voluntary, full time positions in the London office.

  • The successful applicant must be able to participate in the field visit and complete the project's design in the London office.
  • Potential opportunity to supervise construction of the school on site in Papua New Guinea.

Haiti - Community Infrastructure Specialist

ROLE

  • Participate in a UN-led technical assessment of damage, loss and needs with respect to community infrastructure following the recent earthquake in Haiti.
  • Advise on recovery and reconstruction, including risk reduction methods, as part of the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (a document to inform government and UN planning).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified architects / civil engineers.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in project management and coordination of large scale humanitarian operations.
  • Proven ability to prepare sound construction specifications.
  • Excellent communication and personal skills.
  • Fluent in English and French.
  • Experience in Haiti preferred.
  • Knowledge of UN regulations and policies an asset.

 

Information

  • Start date: Immediate.
  • Duration: 4 – 6 weeks.
  • Terms: Negotiable, on site in Haiti.

FUNDRAISING INTERNSHIP

Full time, 6-12 months, Voluntary, London EC2

Humanitarian Architecture charity Article 25, based in central London, is looking for reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to fill the challenging role of fundraising interns.  This is an incredible learning opportunity for keen and energetic individuals who are looking for valuable experience and wish to work in this field, not to mention a chance to work with our dynamic, innovative and expanding charity. 

This role would suit someone who would like to build a career in fundraising, within the voluntary sector.

Duties will include a very wide range of activities including:

  • event management 
  • extensive research for new donors
  • bid writing and compilation
  • assisting with funding proposals
  • establishing and maintaining relationships with potential sponsors
  • and more…

Suitable candidates will be PC & Web literate, with a good understanding of Microsoft Office.  Volunteers need to have excellent written and spoken English, and able to demonstrate a commitment to Article 25's objectives.  An interest in humanitarian aid and international development is important.

Start date: We will invite suitable candidates for interview with a view to starting within the month
