Prototype Child-Friendly School

The site for this prototype school was the rural Kailahun region of eastern Sierra Leone, one of the poorest locations in the world. Following the devastating civil war, many schools had been left dilapidated, dark, cramped and hot, without sanitation facilities.

Alongside Buro Happold and Foster and Partners, Article 25 developed a sustainable child friendly school with flexible, better lit and better ventilated spaces.

It is hoped this design will also provide a cost effective prototype available for replication across Sierra Leone.
