Our recent project in Uganda of designing and constructing a Vocational Training and Counselling Centre, completed in partnership with Jubilee Action and Henning Stummel Architects Ltd, has been praised by locals. The community of Patongo was formed by some 10 000 displaced people, 66% of whom are under the age of 25.
The legacy of the Ugandan civil war continues to disadvantage the whole community, but especially those young people who were abducted and forced to become child soldiers. Though the civil war is over, their experiences often exclude them from their communities and from the prospect of a stable future.
The Vocational Training and Counselling Centre will supply individuals with the ability and the skills to become functioning members of society in Patongo, and so help repair the damage the conflict had both on individuals and on the community.
