On the 6th March, 98 riders, including those from companies such as Savills, Argent and HS20, started on the major 1500km cycle ride from London’s Tooley Street to Cannes. Fortunately, their ride started in the Spring sunshine so spirits were high as family and friends waved them off on their epic journey. The cyclists were riding an impressive average of 240km a day for 6 days, with an aim of arriving in Cannes in time for MIPIM, the leading international real estate fair.
On arrival into Cannes on the 11th March, in front of the Palais de Congress, the riders were greeted by friends, family, riders from previous years – as well as medals and well earned beers. Boris Johnson even made an appearance to congratulate the riders personally.
The Barton Willmore blog gives an insight into the arduous journey from the viewpoint of two of the riders. It tells us of the ailments and muscle ache increasing daily, while also shedding light on the fun they had along the way. Sat in the departure lounge in Nice, post-ride and waiting for a flight home, Iain Painting from Barton Willmore took the chance to recollect some highlights of the experience; ‘What do I remember? The rare chance to talk with a wide range of people, with a common aim and interest. Whatever the distance covered, everyone dug in. I am going to struggle to get my head round the distances. But home now – the Kings Road and the single speed beckons.’
