Article 25 is developing football and community facilities in partnership with Kick 4 Life to support their ongoing work in Maseru, Lesotho. The project plans to provide spaces for football and sport alongside a hub for local youth, training and education opportunities, health facilities and areas for social enterprise.

We have recently completed a feasibility study trip with Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter. The visit included group consultations with children from the local schools and community leaders and officials of the Maseru government. The scheme was received very positively amongst both community and government. The information collected is currently being used to inform the development of the design and we will return to Maseru for further consultation.

[ project location ]

This project is located in Maseru, Lesotho.

[ project partner ]

Article 25 are working with Kick 4 Life, a registered charity that uses football as a tool to fight poverty and disease in the world's poorest countries. They aim to engage youth in those countries through the power of football, empowering them with critical skills and education for healthy lives.

[ project type ]

Lesotho has one of the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the world with many children and young people affected. The project will provide an enjoyable and safe environment for all members of the community to play sports and have access to health facilities and education to develop healthy attitudes and behaviours concerning HIV. An improved football pitch and sports spaces are planned with changing and shower facilities, as well as additional healthcare, HIV/AIDS testing, educational and commercial enterprise opportunities. The project will complement Kick 4 Life's existing programme infrastructure with Maseru.

[ problem addressed ]

The project will address continuing problems of health and HIV/AIDS for the people of Lesotho through sport. The project will support education to avoiding HIV infection as well as working to dismiss stigma and discrimination and empowering youth with critical life skills.

New football facilities will provide a place for the local youth and community to fulfill their sporting ambitions as well as provide new learning opportunities and life skills through sport. The social enterprice facilities will generate new opportunities for work, trade and vocational training.
