"SHOOTS"Feature article in the Journal Made."Shoots" was a 2 day workshop in North London to help pool expertise from a variety of discipines and combine it with enthusiasm from attendees in order to raise awareness, skill levels and knowledge of bamboo as a material for the application in sustainable practice and the developing world. It was an exploratory workshop in to the use of bamboo as a structural material for the construction of a bridge in Thailand. This workshop brought some of the biggest names in bamboo constuction in the UK together to work with profesionals and students to explore joints and construction techniques that will be used to build a prototype span for the bridge. While local skills are already used to build smaller structures the workshop looked at building a bridge of 80 metres with 8 metre spans. The bridge to be built will cost less than £8000 and be sponsored by 8Build. The following are some of the presentations given during the weekend: |
